Review of Musicthingz on Hiphopnz.com

I'm not too sure if this message should go here, but as a dj and a beatmaker I wanted to warn people about buying music equipment from Andrew Taylor at Musicthingz.

I've been mucked around by this guy since June. I've made a claim to the Disputes Tribunal, making a claim through Paypal, I also see that he has auctions on sella.co.nz, so I'll inform them of his dodgy practice, (loooooong waiting times, scratched off serial numbers). At best case sella bans him, at worse case they annoy the shit out of him. Then my next port of call will be a complaint to the Commerce Commission. Every little bit helps to nail this c*nt!!

I've been VERY patient but this guy has f**k3d me off to no end.

A bit of back history, I ordered an Akai MPD32 from him at the beginning of June (the 4th) for $579. The emails that proceeded, up until the 28th of Aug were all along the lines of "It'll be there ASAP! ... Delivery in 7 - 12days from payment ... sorry, the manufacturer has a back log ... coming to you by next week DEFINITELY ... sorry, I've been slack ... I'll get you the tracking number ... It'll take about a week or less ... I'll contact the manufacturer and find the exact date ..." BULLSH1T, BULLSH1T, BULLSH1T!! Nothing worse than excuses.

The MPD32 arrives at the end of Aug with the SERIAL NUMBER SCRATCHED OFF. WTF?! How do I register my MPD online with no serial number. Also, this pretty much voids any warranty I could claim through AkaiPro. How dodgy is that? I find out later on that he doesn't even have distribution rights for most of the DJ/music gear that he sells. As a consequnce those companies refuse to honour the warranty if anyone buys from him.

The reasons why I am posting here (and on every other NZ music forum) are two fold. First, to let those who have been burnt know that I am willing to be contacted, email me -- sovent@slingshot.co.nz and second, to warn people against dealing with him.

Don't deal with him! I thought I'd give it a go coz he seemed like a regular muso like the rest of us but he's just a money grubbing con artist.

Thanks,

Josh

  2. I was buying microphones for our band, and went though Musicthingz as well, I have waited forever and longer for the mics and all I get is occasional bull crap reply from Andrew, luckily I searched on internet and found out where his parent shop is and told him that if he doesn't refund I will go to his parents shop and ask for it, apprently his father has share to Musicthingz as well.

  4. Sounds like a dodgy F*K knuckle. I was basically 3 clicks away from purchasing the KRK's Rokit G2 Monitor speakers and now I will just go else where for them. Thanks for the heads up.

  9. In my experience, they're very good in responding to the initial sales enquiry. Once you ordered (especially after you have paid), you're definitely on your own. Be warned, they have changed their name to www.nzsounds.co.nz! Some rip-off merchant!

  10. This guy is scum.
I run a busy project studio and ordered a pair of KRK RP8's for $800 from this loser. Paid with credit card online. I received nonsensical emails around the dispatch dates and a bogus Track and Trace number.
The speakers never arrived and he stopped emailing me back. He never responded to any phone calls or messages. This caused me heaps of problems keeping up with the work commitments i had.

Andrew Taylor is a spineless creature.

  13. They operate under http://www.globalsounds.co.za here in South Africa. I payed (luckily for me) by accident less than the item was going for. (Paid in Rand and not Dollar) and I've been trying for days to rectify this with no contact from their side. I believe they stole from me
